Cuttack/Pipli/Bhubaneswar: The High Court today asked the government and the SCB medical authorities to bring neurologists and neuro-psychiatrists from the AIIMS in New Delhi for the treatment of the Pipli gang rape victim now under treatment in the SCB medical in Cuttack. The court also directed to consult famous neurologist Dr Bhabani Dash who was one of the founders of the renowned neuro science centre NIMHANS in Bengaluru.

The SCB medical authorities and the crime branch today submitted status reports to the High Court. The medical authorities informed the court that there was some improvement in the condition of the victim.

On the other hand, the crime branch today produced third accused in the case Premananda Nayak before the Pipli JMFC. The JMFC allowed the crime branch to take Premananda on a two-day remand. The JMFC too granted the petition of the crime branch to extend the remand period of main accused Prashant Pradhan by three more days. The third accused Guna Swain however has been sent to the jail till January 27 as his bail application was rejected by the JMFC.

Meanwhile, the National Women Commission has asked the government to give justice to the victim of the Pipli gang rape incident. The chairperson Mamata Sharma has written separate letters to the chief secretary and the director general of police in this regard. The member secretary of the commission Anita Agnihotri would visiut the state on february 3 and was likely to meet the victim.

Amid all thesed developments, the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party`s Krishak Morcha and CPI(M-L) today demanded the resignation of agriculture minister and Pipli MLA Pradeep Maharathi from the cabinet.
