Hardcore Maoist Carrying Rs 2 Lakh Bounty Surrenders in Odisha

Malkangiri: A hardcore Maoist cadre carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head surrendered before Malkangiri police on Friday.

The Maoist was identified as Dula Madkami, an active member of Andhra-Odisha Border Zonal Committee of the Maoists.  Senior police officials informed that Madkami worked in the protection team of Maoist leader and secretary of Andhra Odisha Border Zonal committee, Uday.

According to police, Madkami was involved in a series of attacks on security forces in Malkangiri and Baipariguda of Koraput.  He surrendered before Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Khilari and Sukma based CRPF (74 Battalion) second -in Commandant, Neeraj Kumar.

Madkami said he surrendered after being upset with the Maoist leadership and their ideology. He also urged other Maoist cadres to shun violence and join the mainstream and contribute towards the development of the Swabhiman Anchala (Earlier known as cut-off region).

“Fearing a crackdown by security forces and upset over Maoist ideology, Madkami has surrendered before us. All facilities will be provided to him under Odisha government’s rehabilitation and settlement scheme,” the SP said.
