Berhampur: Governor M C Bhandare on Tuesday underscored need of developing self-regulating mechanism by media organisations to maintain transparency and accountability.

While the media organisations are enjoying the freedom of the press they should develop self-regulating mechanism to be transparent and accountable in discharging their responsibilities, he said inagurating a two-day seminar `Media Audit : Need for Greater Accountability, Transparency and Responsibility` organised by post-graduate department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Berhampur University here

Hailing the Indian media, he said it had won the appreciation for it`s importance-local, national and international.

Bhandare said corruption was eating away the social system besides adversely affecting economic growth and the moral standards.

Baijayant Panda (MP), K V Nagaraj, Head of Department, Journalism Assam University, Silchar and Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, local MLA addressed seminar which was presided by Vice-chancellor J K Mohapatra.
