Bhubaneswar: In the wake of Lokpal’s submission of its special report to the Governor on land acquisition for the proposed Vedanta University; Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on Sunday asked for the clarifications from the state government.

Bhandare directed the state government’s General Administration Department and Grievances Cell to look into the details of Lokpal’s report and submit reply.

As per reports, earlier, the Lokpal had questioned the legality of land being acquired for a private company. It had asked the government to take action on its recommendations.

Government ignored the recommendations and wanted to legalise the land acquisition process; in the past the compliance report submitted by state government was not satisfactory for Lok Pal, alleged the Lok Pal in the report.

Based on Dwarika Mohan Mishra’s complaint, the Lok Pal on March 17, 2010, had raised nine questions and pointed out that all rules on land acquisition had been blatantly violated at the time of land acquisition.

According to constitutional experts, even though the case is now subjudice, Lokpal’s report will neither create any constitutional crisis nor put the state in a tight spot.
