Cuttack: The commissionerate police have arrested four more persons for their alleged involvement in the lady teacher Alakananda murder case on Saturday night taking total number of accused to 10. All of them are being interrogated, police said.

The laptops, pen drive, and some CDs seized from their possession are also being examined, they added.
Though the investigating officials are still waiting for report on phone call records and SMSs between the accused and victim, the move to take all of the accused on remand was being considered, highly placed sources said.

Meanwhile a scientific team of police also seized the burnt bones, blood stained salwar and hair of the victim from the funeral ground where she was cremated, as confessed by the accused.

Police arrested the main accused Paresh Mohapatra, the principal of a city based reputed public school in Cuttack and four of his associates after the victim’s brother lodged a police complaint. Later, another accused Chiku Mundar, who assisted Mohapatra in cremating the body, was caught from SCB Medical college campus on Friday. However, with four more arrest, police are expecting to elicit more information regarding the high-profile case that has rocked the twin city.

Police said, Alakananda had come in contact with Paresh in 2010 and both were in a live-in relationship after an intimacy developed between them. Both were staying in a rented house at CDA sector 10.

On July 29, there was some altercation between the two and in a fit of rage, Paresh strangulated the teacher with her ‘dupatta’, police said. “Though the accused has admitted to the crime, he is yet to motive behind the crime,” an investigating officer said.
