Bisamkatak/Rayagada: Foreign tourists were today witnessed at the Chatikona weekly market of the tribals. But the tourists were not capturing photographs of the tribals as the administration had taken strict measures after foreign tourists were seen taking snaps of the tribals on Wednesday last. The foreign tourists were allowed to visit the weekly haat after thorough searches for cameras and other gadgets.

A big hue and cry was raised after some foreign tourists were seen capturing photographs of Dongria Kondhs at the weekly haat in Rayagada district last week. The district administration swung into action after an inquiry and conducted verifications of passports and visas of the tourists this time. The cameras and other electronic gadgets of the tourists were deposited at the local police station.

The foreign tourists without cameras were seen mainly shopping for different items in the weekly haat. The tourists felt unhapppy at the restrictions and conditions imposed by the government. The tour operators constantly accompanied the foreign tourists.

About 50 foreign tourists were seen taking photographs of tribals at the weekly haat in Rayagada district on Wednesday last despite the government imposing the conditions on visit of foreign tourists. The district administration had lodged cases against eight tour opeartors in this conection.
