Berhampur: Five persons were arrested in Ganjam district for allegedly supplying adulterated foreign liquor to the market, police sources said today.

The adulteration of IMFL came to light after samples from a liquor shop at Pathara near Gopalpur were tested, police said.

"These persons supplied adulterated IMFL mainly for marriages in Gopalpur," a senior police officer said. They were arrested yesterday by the Gopalpur and Chhatrapur police during raids, the sources said.

One of them supplied liquor to a marriage at New Golabandh and some other places, where five persons died after consuming it.

The arrested were identified as Narayan Sahu of Ankuli, R Danda of Biswanathpur, S Bhima of New Golabandh, Laxmi Narayan Sahu of Karapalli and Biswanath Sahu of Ankuli.

The liquor was adulterated in the house of Biswanath Sahu at Ankuli. His son was also suspected to be involved in the racket, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chhatrapur, A C Padhi said.
