Cuttack: After much hue and cry over the dowry harassment case against ex-minister Raghunath Mohanty and his family, the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) arrested the ex-minister’s son Rajashree near here on Saturday night.

HRPC and crime branch ADG BK Sharma informed the media at a press meet that accused Rajashree was arrested near Cuttack and will be taken to Balasore to produce him before a court. "Several raids were conducted in and outside Balasore and he was arrested near Cuttack. The accused will be produced in court tomorrow", BK Sharma told newsmen.

Replying to the reporters, Sharma denied to disclose any evidences the investigating team obtained during preliminary investigation.

On the other hand, complainant Barshasoni demanded arrest of other accused.

"Not only Rajashree tortured me but also his other family members were involved in it. So, they should be arrested immediately. I have trust on the HRPC team", Barshasoni said.

Wife of the accused, Barshasoni Choudhury, lodged an FIR on Wednesday night at Balasore Town police station alleging that she was subjected to dowry harassment by the family of the ex-minister. She made accused her husband, minister father-in-law and mother-in-law in her complaint.

A five-member team of HRPC on Saturday started investigation at the paternal house of the complainant with recording statements of the complainant and her paternal family members.

A day after she lodged complaint, Raghunath Mohanty resigned as the minister of Housing and Urban Development on Thursday morning following which transactions of current session of Odisha Assembly have been affected. Even as the Chief Minister ordered HRPC to investigate into the matter, the Opposition Congress rejected order for HRPC probe and has been creating heavy noise in the House demanding special discussion on the issue.
