Bhubaneswar: Seeking complete withdrawal of force from the proposed plant site of Posco near Paradip, CPI on Saturday demanded stringent action against an officer of state-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) who was allegedly caught in camera beating children and women during land acquisition.

The issue was raised by CPI's lone MLA Adikanda Sethi during zero hour in the Assembly here. "We condemn use of force for land acquisition for Posco project," Sethi said.

The CPI MLA alleged the senior officer of IDCO was found beating children and women on February 3 during land acquisition at Gobindpur village of Jagatsinghpur district.

"He took law into his hand and assaulted the agitating women and children," Sethi alleged while drawing the speaker's attention.

Sethi also demanded shifting of the proposed Posco project from fertile land of Dhinkia area in Jagatsinghpur district.

Though an FIR has been registered against the officer, no action had been taken against him so far, Sethi alleged outside the House.
