Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday asked the State Energy department to restore power supply in cyclone and flood affected areas by November 5.

"The chief minister has directed the Enegry department to finish power restoration task by November 5. Though work has been hampered due to rain following a fresh depression in the Bay of Bengal, we are hopeful to meet the deadline given to us," said Energy minister Arun Sahu after a high level meeting chaired by the chief minister at State Secretariat here.

The minister also informed that the meeting decided to increase payment of labourers working in the power restoration operation.

"Around 4 lakh electric poles have been damaged. Our priority is to procure iron poles from Rourkela Steel Plant and cement poles from local manufacturers," added Sahu.

As per the estimate, the Energy department has suffered maximum loss due to the cyclone and flood and sought around Rs 1,048 crore assistance from the Centre for restoration of power infrastructure in the affected areas.
