Bhubaneswar: Many grid sub-stations in the state are running the risk of overloading — and need upgradation and capacity improvement.

“Consumers may face power crisis this year; due to the over loading of the 22 grid substations in seven districts and 11 transmission lines in five districts,” said Energy Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.

While Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Sundergarh are the five districts where the transmission lines need upgradation, the districts where grid sub-stations have been affected by load-shedding include Balasore, Berhampur, Jagatsinghpur and Nabrangpur etc.

Capacity improvement and upgradation have become the operating words, as the aim is to meet the growing load demand.

“The government is taking steps to meet the load demand of both transmission lines and grid sub-stations. The upgradation of 12 out of 22 grid sub-stations has to be done by the end of July,” sources said.
