Nayagarh: The sugarcane growers on Thursday began agitation at a sugar factory at Pani Poila here alleging that they were not paid with money after supplying cane to a sugar factory.
Sources said that the sugar factory owners have been defaulters of Rs 3 crore to the farmers since five months.
The demonstrating farmers have warned to intensify their strike, if the sugar factory authorities defaulting on payments don’t clear them.
According to the sugar factory authorities, since VAT has been levied, there has been difficulty in selling the sugar. The authorities have also given assurance that the payments which have been delayed are to be made to the farmers very soon.
