Bandh paralyses life in Bolangir

Beneficiaries of several schemes like old age and disabled pension were also deprived of drawing money in view of the shutdown, official sources said.

The student Congress claimed that road accidents are taking place in Bolangir town frequently as a large number of heavy vehicles are plying through the town.

National Highway 26 connecting Boriguma and Baragarh and NH 57 connecting Bolangir and Khurdha are passing through the town. A girl student of Rajendra College was killed last week when a private bus ran over her on Bolangir-Patanagarh road near Mission play ground.

State and central government offices including post office, banks, and insurance offices remained closed during the bandh. Business establishments also downed their shutter.

Private and state-owned buses were also off the road, while schools and colleges remained closed.

As the state government fixed 15th of every month for disbursement of old age, widow, disabled, Madhubabu pension for HIV/Aids patients and other schemes, the beneficiaries failed to draw money due to the bandh.

As government officials could not go to their offices these pension could not be disbursed.
