At 46.7 deg C, state capital breaks 40-yr old record
On Monday Bhubaneswar boiled at 45.9 degree Celsius, while temperature in Baripada and Talcher reached 46 degree Celsius. The met department however has warned that the situation will continue for the next 24 hours. According to unofficial figures, heat waves in the state have so far claimed 105 lives, while officially the figure remains at 30.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said the South-West monsoon has hit Kerala as the state is witnessing spells of rain at few places.
With mercury level hovering around 45 degree Celsius in most parts of the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday in a review meeting asked the departments concerned to take all precautionary measures to tackle the situation.
