Another tusker found dead, 2 in 2 days in Ganjam
Berhampur: A day after the carcass of an elephant was recovered from Nimakhandi village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district, the forest department today recovered another carcass of a tusker found near Kokalaba drain under Tarasingh Forest Range in Bhanjanagar area here.
The matter came into light after locals spotted the carcass and informed the forest department. Immediately, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass. While the officials have started an investigation into the incident, the exact reason behind the death of the pachyderm is yet to be established.
Forest officials after recovering the carcass of the elephant yesterday stated that it could be a case of poaching as holes resembling gunshot wounds were spotted on the pachyderm’s body.
Earlier on December 12, carcass of a 7-year-old female elephant was recovered near Sabar Taila village under Sukasan reserve of Athagarh forest range in the Cuttcak district.
