Bhubaneswar: Around 50 agitators belonging to Nava Nirman Krushak Sangathan, an outfit for the cause of farmers, were arrested on Monday outside Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence while trying gherao his house here.



Members of the pro-farmer organisation, hoodwinking the police in the wee hours reached Naveen Niwas at around 5.45 am from nearby Palaspali area and tried to gherao CM’s residence violating section 144. They shouted slogans pressing for ‘price, prestige and pension’ for farmers before being taken away by the armed police.



With anti-government placards on their hands, the protestors demanded Rs 5,000 as minimum support price (MSP) per quintal for paddy, security pension for farmers and special honour to the cultivators. 



The police however had a tough time to control the defiant crowd.
 
On the other hand, ruling Biju Janata Dal expressed displeasure over the incident. BJD Chief Whip Prabhat Tripathy, reacting to farmers’ demands, said it was Centre to declare bonus on paddy.
