Nabarangpur: Two hardcore Maoists, including a woman cadre, surrendered before police in Nabarangpur distrit on Saturday as they were "disillusioned with the activities of naxals and found them to be harassing tribals and poor".

The ultras, identified as Radhika Biswakarma alias Ramvati (19) of Kundei area in Nabarangpur district and Ramesh Markam alias Amar (22) of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, surrendered before Superintendent of Police Brajesh Rai.

Both of them had been working in Mainpur Division of the Naxals operating in Nabarangpur and Nuapada Districts of Odisha and Dhamtari and Gariabandh Districts of Chhattisgarh.

Radhika got associated with Maoists since 2010, took 20 days training in Sunabeda and worked in Sitanadi Local Organisation Squad under the leadership of Satyam Gawde and Seema, deputy commanders, the SP said.

She was involved the killing of a village Kotwal of Gobra and killing of SPO in Garibandh. She had held meetings for Naxal organization in Mangra Chhatan, Makad Tendu, Semardihi, Bhurkamahuli Kandetara, Gerardi, Toraidongri and other places of Chhattisgarh. She knows how to plant Tiffin bombs and fire SLR and 303 rifles, he said.

Similarly, Ramesh Markam joined the Naxal organisation in 2009. He participated in an ambush against the police force and had organised meetings at Masulkohi, Chamenda, Jogibirede,Rawos, Nalajhor, Galubahar, Risigaon, Barrup, Bada Rawas and other places of Nabarangpur District.

Radhika and Ramesh told reporters that they found the outfit without any ideology. They had been promised salary, dress materials, medical facilities by naxal leaders.

They were also told that the organisation works for the welfare of tribals and poor people and work against corruption. But this was found to be false. They were harassed by Naxal leaders, the duo said adding the woman cadre were sexually exploited.

The two decided to give up arms as they saw the government implementing several developmental works in interior areas and giving rehabilitation package to those who surrendered.
