Bhubaneswar: Even as 48 hours elapsed, suspense over resignation of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh has refused to die down as the party top brass including PCC president Jayadev Jena are still unable to clarify Singh’s stand.
Even former minister Prakash Debata, one of the close associates of Singh, who tried to meet him today, failed to contact him. On the other hand, Singh’s family member said that the leader of opposition is unwell and they were not informed about his decision.

“As he is my childhood friend, I came here to meet him. But, he was not here. I had met him three days ago and he did not tell me anything about this” Prakash Debata told OTV on the query whether his friend has planned to resign.

Speculation over resignation came to fore when the leader stayed him away from the party meeting held in Delhi to discuss candidates for forthcoming polls. Reliable sources said, Singh is planning to quit party if he is not allowed to contest Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat.

Recently, Singh had expressed his willingness to contest from Kalahandi for parliament lower house, senior party man Bhakta Das, who is sitting MP of the same constituency, expressed displeasure over Singh’s statement.

However, Das denied any personal or political disputes with Singh. “He (Bhupinder) might have some dispute with me, but I don’t have any. Everybody knows, I have always been assisting him in the elections”, MP Bhakta Das said.

PCC president Jayadev Jena, who continuously failed to contact him, said that he had no information about the media speculation. However, rumour spread that Singh is planning to quit Congress and join BJD while sources closed to Congress party tight-lipped about the possibility of Singh joining the ruling party if he fails to get the Congress ticket for the backward district.
