Student alleges ragging by seniors at Ravenshaw hostel

Cuttack: A student of Ravenshaw University today lodged a police complaint alleging ragging by his seniors over a social media post.

The victim identified as a second year Sanskrit student Suryakant Mohapatra, in his complaint at the Malgodown police station alleged that he was assaulted by a group of seniors from the MBA department inside his hostel.

As per reports, Suryakant had posted few comments on a Facebook post, by one of his seniors that was in support of a particular political party. This infuriated the senior who, accompanied by his friends, barged into Suryankant’s room on Wednesday night and thrashed him.

Following the incident, the victim informed the hostel warden and lodged a police complaint alleging ragging by seniors.

"They abused and thrashed me and forced me to delete my post on  social media. Not only that, they also threatened to kill me," Suryakant said.

Meanwhie, the medical examination of Suryakant is completed and investigation is underway. However the University authorities and Police are yet to comment on the matter.
