Sambalpur: At least seven persons were killed and five others seriously injured after the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a truck at Bhalubahal, 12 km from here, on Sunday, police said.

The jeep was proceeding towards Sambalpur from Nayagarh carrying 12 persons when it collided with the truck.

Six persons, including two women and a child, died on the spot while another woman succumbed to her injuries on way to hospital, the police said.

The seriously injured were being treated at the VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla and their condition was stated to be critical.

The truck has been impounded but the driver and helper were absconding.
