Woman throws sleeping 3-year-old daughter into lake to get rid of her, marry boyfriend
In a shocking incident from Rajasthan’s Ajmer city, police arrested a woman for killing her three-year-old daughter by throwing her into the Ana Sagar lake. Investigators say the accused, living in a live-in relationship, wanted to ‘get rid’ of the child she had with her estranged husband.
The case came to light on Tuesday when police noticed a woman, later identified as Anjali alias Priya Singh from Varanasi, loitering suspiciously near Bajrang Garh crossing. When questioned, she tried to mislead officers, claiming her daughter had gone missing and that she and her partner were searching for her.
Authorities took the woman and her live-in partner, Aklesh Gupta of Uttar Pradesh, to the control room where CCTV footage was reviewed. The video revealed that Anjali was last seen with her daughter between 10 p.m. and 1.30 a.m. Later, she visited the old Ana Sagar Chowpatty, an area with missing railings.
It was there, police allege, that she pushed the sleeping toddler into the lake.
Under intensive questioning, Anjali confessed to the crime. She admitted that after killing the child, she called Gupta to the scene. Investigations revealed that she had moved to Ajmer with him after leaving her husband in Varanasi.
Police confirmed that the child’s body was recovered from the lake. They also found that Anjali’s husband had already lodged a missing person’s report for his wife.
This shocking case has sparked outrage and grief, highlighting yet another chilling instance of a parent turning against her own child.
