Jajpur: Two days after gunning down five Maoists at Raighati forest area in Jajpur district, security personnel on Tuesday recovered one quintal of explosives from the same locality during a search operation, police said.

The police teams found Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 200 gelatin sticks, 10 kg of cortex, 100 metres of electric wire, three electrical detonators and other explosives from the forest close to the Sunday`s encounter place, Jajpur SP D S Kuttey said.

The search operation was conducted in the Raighar forest and its nearby areas after the killing of five Maoists, including four women, and seizure of 12 rifles and ammunition from the encounter site.

"We have recovered around one quintal of high quality explosives from the forest during our search operation. The explosives are being defused under a culvert between Tomka and Kaliapani road," the SP told reporters here.

"We were planning to continue search for a few more days in the forest and hopeful of getting more explosives or arms and ammunition," he added.
