Bhubaneswar: Alleging that two persons, including a party functionary, were gunned down in Paikamal recently during anti-Maoist operations, the BJP on Tuesday said it would petition National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to probe it.

"We have asked the state unit to petition the NHRC on the killing of two persons, including a BJP mandal president, in Paikamal area of Bargarh district," BJP national general secretary Anant Kumar told reporters here.

Rejecting the claim made by police that they were killed in an encounter during anti-Maoist operations, Kumar said "the two were murdered in an atrocious incident of police excess. It was a fake encounter."

Accusing the BJD government in Orissa of failing to fulfill the aspirations of the people, the BJP leader alleged that there were serious charges of corruption against the Naveen Patnaik regime.

He said BJP had always raised its voice against corruption in different sectors including the multi-crore mining scam and flouting of rules and norms for setting up of industries and other ventures.

The BJD government was also facing charges of non-performance and non-implementation of centrally funded rural employment schemes like MGNREGA, Kumar said.
