Suicide attempt: Case registered against woman

Bhubaneswar: Taking suo motu cognizance in a suicide attempt case by a woman, the commissionerate police today lodged a complaint against her at Balianta police station.

Police sources said the lady has been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) under IPC.

Yesterday she had jumped into a syphon with her one-year old daughter near Balianta on the outskirts of the city.

Soon after the incident though the lady was rescued by the locals, the baby was missing since then. After hours of search operation by the fire brigade team, her body was fished out from the canal today morning near Pipili in Puri district.

Sources said, the infant’s father identified the body at the spot.

The critically injured woman identified as Subhashree Patnaik is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Patnaik had married Satyajit Mohanty in June, 2013. The couple, who works in Aviation Research Centre (ARC) Charbatia in Cuttack was blessed with a girl child on October 27, 2014.

Family sources said the couple was not in good terms since their marriage.
