Angul: Two college students committed suicide by jumping before of a moving train at Angul railway station on Sunday night.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Amitabh Barik and Nirmala Podha, had gone to Angul railway station and jumped in front of the Puri-Angul passenger train in the night.
The incident took place at around 10.15 pm.
IIC of Angul Police station Subash Chandra Sahu informed that Amitabh was a Plus Two Science second year student of Nakatideula Junior College while Nirmala was a student of Plus Two second year Arts in Redhakhol Women’s Science College.
Both the deceased were below 18 years of age, he said.
Police on Monday went to the spot and sent the bodies for post mortem.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the duo was in love.
“We have informed the family members of the deceased as well as the concerned college authorities after getting information from their identity cards. The family members and the college authorities have already arrived here”, the IIC said, adding that police have registered an unnatural death case.
