Bhubaneswar: The Railway ministry has decided to bring back 250 pilgrims of Odisha’s Kendrapara district who are stranded at Chennai Egmore railway station on account of cancellation of trains due to massive flood in Chennai.

Railway sources said a special train, carrying 250 Odia pilgrims, would leave from Egmore railway station, about three km from Chennai Beach Station at 8.20 AM tomorrow and reach Kolkata via Bhubaneswar.

The decision of the Railways came following a request made by senior BJD leader and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda in a letter to Railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday.

Stating that of the 250 stranded pilgrims, around 220 pilgrims were old men and women, Panda said given their age and poor economic background, they were finding it very difficult to sustain themselves at the railway station.
