Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday decided to participate in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission into BTech courses.

Informing this to the media, Technical Education Minister Sanjay Dasburma said, “This year too the students will take part in the JEE (Main) test."

Last year too, the students from Odisha appeared in the all-India test following the decision of the State government.

The minister said the State government would bring an amendment in the Professional Education Act-2007 Meanwhile to sort out issues and confusion arising out of two tests- OJEE and JEE (Main).

“There are certain clauses in the Odisha Professional Educational Institution Act which need to be amended for the benefit of the students. We will soon take initiative in this regard,” he said.

The State government’s decision regarding JEE(Main) is likely to be opposed by the Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPEPA), which has been facing acute student shortage in admission into B Tech courses in the institutions for past few years.

Stating that over than 60 per cent of seats have remained vacant in the first year BTech courses in the last two years, OPECA, in a recent memorandum to chief minister Naveen Patnaik, had requested the State government to adhere to the Orissa Professional Educational Institution Act 2007 provisions in letter and spirit.
