Bhubaneswar: To keep a close watch on the habitual traffic violators and anti-social elements in the capital city and its outskirt areas, the Commissionerate Police has decided to install more CCTV cameras.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting at the Commissionerate Police headquarters here on Thursday.
“We have prepared another list of about 90-100 locations in Bhubaneswar and its outskirts of which there is a provision to install PTZ (pan–tilt–zoom) cameras in about 50 percent of these locations. The PTZ cameras can capture photos from all sides as they have the 360 Degree pan. Besides, we have also decided to install PTZ cameras at some junctions of the city which are comparatively less crowded considering their futuristic aspects,” police commissioner RP Sharma told media persons after the meeting.
As decided, the Commissionerate Police and the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OSPHWC) will jointly take a decision on the type of CCTV cameras to be installed at specific locations in and on the outskirts of the city.
“As per the earlier plan for installation of CCTV cameras in major junctions and thoroughfares in the city, the Commissionerate Police now wants change in some locations. We would prepare the detailed project report (DPR) after it gives us the list of new locations, OSPHWC chairman Manoj Chhabra said”.
He also informed that the project work, which was scheduled for completion in three phases, will be completed in two phases by 2016.
At present there are more than 100 CCTV cameras installed in busy junctions in Bhubaneswar of which PTZ cameras have been put up in major locations including Raj Mahal Square and Kalinga Hospital Square.
