Bhubaneswar: BJD MLA Pramila Mallick’s ‘Amar Ladoo’ (immortality pill) remark while expressing her opinion on farmer suicides has not only drawn the ire of Opposition parties, but also of her party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

According to sources, Patnaik reprimanded Mallick for her remark and warned her to refrain from making such irresponsible statements.

However, Mallick while talking to Odisha Television said, that she did not receive any such communication neither from Patnaik, nor from his office.

"I have talked to the chief minister over phone and clarified that the remark was not intended at the farmers," said Mallick.

The whole controversy stemmed from Mallick’s comment where she gave a suggestion to the Opposition parties to give ‘amar ladoo’ to the farmers and should make efforts so that the people of Odisha would never die.

Earlier in the day, the BJP Mahila Morcha came down heavily on Mallick for her high-handed remark.

At a press briefing here, Morcha leader Surama Padhi said the statement of Mallick on ‘amar ladoo’ has dealt a body blow to the entire farmer community.

“The BJP strongly condemns the statement of the BJD Mahila Morcha president and former Woman and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick suggesting ‘amar ladoo’ for the farmers so that they would never die. Besides, she has said the Opposition is making farce and the media is publishing biased news. Being a mother, she has gone above her sensitivity”, she said.

Similarly, the women’s wing of Odisha Congress today burnt Mallick’s effigy today in protest of her remark.
