Lawyer axed to death; past enmity suspected

Boudh: In a bizarre incident, a young lawyer was axed to death at Bahira village under Baunsuni police station in the district on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place when lawyer Hemant Sahoo, who was a former block president of BJP, was on a morning walk. Unidentified miscreants attacked him from behind before fleeing. Profusely bleeding Hemant died on the spot.

Family members suspected previous enmity might be the reason behind the brutal crime. The enmity might develop relating to any legal matter, they added.

“A case related to land matter was there for long days. They had murdered a person in 2004. I think they might kill my brother”, Sujit Sahoo, brother of the deceased, said adding they might commit the crime to get the land.

Meanwhile, Baunsuni police IIC along with the team rushed to the spot and started investigation. The police said the body of Hemant has been sent for post mortem. Investigation is on.
