Bargarh: A three-member team of Crime Branch led by DSP Teraj Patel on Thursday arrived at the Bargarh police station to probe into the alleged kidney theft case.
Crime Branch’s Patel, Bilasini Naik and ASI Pitabas Das recorded the statements of complainant Anil Swami the police station and later visited the house of kidney acceptor Raghbram Dora for questioning.
The Town Police have detained a person and registered cases against three of his family members following a kidney theft complaint lodged against by his neighbour.
Notably, the complainant said he had informed his neighbour Dasarathi Dora about the acute pain in his stomach in 2013.
“Later, Dasarathi and his brother Ramakrushna took me to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla and then to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for a medical check-up after which they told me that I have a minor problem in my kidney which can be cured with a minor surgery. They also told me not to panic about the surgery as they can get it done through government expense since they are the government employees,” Anil said.
“However, the two brothers told me that for the operation, I have to be their brother on record. After I agreed, they prepared a fake identify card, bank passbook and other relevant documents required for the surgery in the name of Anil Dora. After preparing these documents, they took me to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where I underwent a surgery on October 5, 2013. After some days of the surgery, I came to know that one of my kidneys has been transplanted,” Anil informed.
He said after coming to know about the treachery of these two brothers, he inquired about the reason of his kidney transplant.
“Dasarathi and Ramakrushna had another brother named Raghabram whose two kidneys were damaged. Keeping this in view, the two brothers played treachery with me and got one of my kidneys transplanted to their ailing brother,” he pointed out.
The Bargarh Town Police has registered cases against Dasarathi, Ramakrushna and Raghabram under section 419, 420, 468, 471, 506 and 120(b) of the IPC and section 18, 19 and 20 of Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994.
