New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Rama Naga, an Odia student at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been elected as general secretary in the JNU students’ union polls (JNUSU).

According to reports, Rama Naga, a native of Jeypore in Koraput district was a candidate of the left-backed All India Students Association (AISA).

Naga, a second-year postgraduate student of political science got 1159 votes and defeated ABVP candidate Devendra Singh Rajput.

Notably, CPI's student wing All India Students' Federation (AISF) won the presidential post in the JNU Students' Union elections today.

AISF candidate Kanhaiya Kumar was declared the president of the students' union after the results were announced today.

The parties contesting the elections include the All India Students Association (AISA), All India Students Federation (AISF), Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Students Federation of India (SFI), National Students Union of India (NSUI), Democratic Student's Federation (DSF) and Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association (BAPSA).

JNUSU is the representative body of the students in the varsity.
