Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress today boycotted the monsoon session of Odisha Assembly over discussion on Odisha Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill- 2015.
Informing about this to media, leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra said, “We are boycotting this session as the ruling party does not want our presence in the House. Our leaders are not given any scope to raise an issue or talk on any burning topic.”
Mishra alleged that the ruling party does not want a discussion on any Bill.
“Today, when it (land grab bill) was introduced, we drew the attention of the Speaker demanding an explanation of the clauses of the Bill. But it was not accepted,“ he said.
Earlier the House witnessed pandemonium after leaders from the opposition parties opposed the Bill.
Soon after the Bill was introduced for discussion in the afternoon, the opposition MLAs created noisy scenes and did not allow the Speaker to run the House.
Observing the Speaker’s non-response to their reaction on the Bill, they rushed towards his podium and tried to climb onto it.
