Berhampur: A day after chief minister Naveen Patnaik terming the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's allocation of just Rs 1,000 for the proposed wagon factory at Sitapalli as 'diasppointing', the Ganjam district unit of the ruling BJD today staged dharna at the railway station here.

The train services were, however not affected due to the two-hour agitation by the ruling party at the station, police said.

The people of the area want implantation of the railway line from Gopalpur to Rayagada, Berhampur to Phulbani, railway terminal at Berhampur, the direct train from Berhampur to New Delhi, Berhampur to Rourkeal via Sambalpur, a DMU from Berhampur to Puri, another train from Bhubaneswar to Surat and for early implementation of the proposed railway wagon factory at Sitalapalli.

"The NDA government at Center had virtually ignored in this part of Odisha without sanctioning any of these projects or allocating amounts to undertake the project in the budget.

"We are protesting this type of attitude of the Central government," said ruling party's district unit president Subash Moharana.
