Another farmer commits suicide in Odisha

Baripada: A farmer of Mayurbhanj district committed suicide late on Sunday night due to crop loss and loan burden.

The body of the deceased, identified as Laxman Majhi (45) of Kadambadiha village of Chandanpur panchayat under Bangiriposi police station limits, was found hanging from a tree near his land in the morning.

Following information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post mortem.

Talking to the media, Bajan Murmu, brother of the deceased, said Laxman had taken a loan of Rs 25,000 from the Bank of India’s Bangiriposi branch last year for paddy cultivation. But the crop was damaged due to scanty rainfall.

“Unable to repay the loan, he was in severe mental stress and took the extreme step,” he added.
