Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to auction the lands belonging to Lord Jagannath lying under the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) limits for which Sri Jagannath Temple Administration on Wednesday inked an MoU with the BDA in presence of CM Naveen Patnaik. In the first phase, 220 acres of land will be sold.

“We have expected to generate Rs 1,000 crore by selling the land. The amount will be saved in the temple corpus fund to enrich the present exchequer”, Chief temple administrator Arvind Padhee said.
Around 11,000 acres have been in Khurda district alone out of which 2,500 acres are homestead land, he added.

According to the agreement, the BDA will ensure execution of all basic infrastructure development in compact land and expenditure on this will be reimbursed by the temple administrator.

BDA vice-chairman Krishan Kumar, who signed the agreement, said the work will be started after possession of the land with proper verification. The temple administration should get the value of the plots.
