Bhubaneswar: Amid protests over suicide attempt of a Class XI girl student of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV)-III in Mancheswar area of Bhubaneswar following alleged harassment by a lady physical education (PE) teacher, the KV Sangathan authorities on Sunday transferred the accused PE teacher.

The PE teacher, Suryamani Pattnaik has been transferred to Vyasnagar Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jajpur district, a letter issued by the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan stated.

In the letter, the DC has clarified that the female teacher has been temporarily transferred to KV, Vyasnagar with immediate effect. Similarly, the principal of KV, Vyasnagar has been asked to inform about the date of reporting of the teacher.

Meanwhile, several students of the school and their parents once again staged a protest near the school building and detained the principal by locking up the main gate of the institute on Sunday evening.

Some students of the school also protested before the principal earlier in the day when the latter visited the private hospital to take stock of the health condition of the girl student who tried to commit suicide.

The students alleged that the girl attempted suicide as she was harassed by the PE teacher but the Principal was supporting her without taking any action.

"The PE teacher harassed my sister and now the principal is coming to her rescue by telling lies before the media to save her face," said the sister of the Class XI girl student.

"The principal should not have carried out the probe in such a manner because if the PE teacher thinks she is not guilty of harassing students, she should face us. We will not withdraw our protests until the PE teacher seeks apologies," said an agitating student.

Notably, the lady teacher had allegedly misbehaved with the girl and also reportedly verbally abused her on Friday afternoon. Unable to bear the insult, the girl allegedly jumped off the roof of the school building and fractured her legs.
