Puri: Hearing a petition filed by the MR mutt authorities, the Orissa High court on Thursday directed that the silver bricks found in the mutt not to be shifted and be kept inside the Mutt with adequate security measures.
The court also wanted to know if the seizure list is prepared or not and directed the state government to submit the case diaries of the two different cases registered at Puri and Dhenkanal Sadar police stations by April 4.
Concerned over the proper preservation and security of the silver blocks, the mutt authorities approached the High court and sought to handover the responsibility to the endowment commission. The Simhadwar police had shifted the bricks to another room and didn’t give the seizure list to the mutt authorities.
“Even if the police have seized it and the state government is involved, that is (the silver bricks) the exclusive property of the MR mutt. My prayer was that when police seized it, their duty was to give a seizure list to the mutt which they have not yet given and I have challenged this before the court. Secondly, within 24 hours of the seizure, they (police) should have intimated the concerned court. But they have not done so”, said lawer of the MR mutt, Kishore Kumar Jena
The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on April 4.
It may be noted that 522 silver bricks each weighing 38-40 kg were seized a few days before from the mutt located in front of the 12th century Sri Jagannath temple after being informed by two persons who were arrested recently while selling a few stolen silver bricks.
