Delhi: Union Minister for PNG and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan called for greater synergy between academia, industry and policymakers to drive innovation and achieve quantum growth while addressing CHEMCON 2019, the 72nd Annual session of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers at IIT Delhi on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan focused on the importance of chemical engineering in the economy and the need for novelty to achieve the country’s aspirations. Chemical Engineering is a pivotal area which has the capability to run the growth engine of the country, he said.
“Innovation cannot be achieved without having the courage to fail. We must move away from the culture of ‘status quo’. There should be greater synergy between academia, industry and policymakers to drive innovation,” said Pradhan.
Appealing to the scientific community, the Minister said, “We are a nation of aspirations. Our scientific community must contribute towards realising aspirations of our youth.”
“We are moving towards a knowledge-based economy. India will be at the centre of global innovation. The shifts in global economic landscape coupled with India’s vibrancy is making India, the hotspot of global growth,” stated Pradhan.
Claiming that India will lead the fourth Industrial Revolution, Pradhan said, "It presents an immense opportunity to India. We must own our failures, and become brave innovators.” Pradhan said adding the Oil and gas PSUs have set up a fund of Rs. 300 Cr to support start-ups.
Pradhan also motivated the students to move away from traditional notions of success and become entrepreneurs to create a better future for themselves and for the country.
During the occasion, the Union Minister further informed that the country's first synthesis gas plant will be established in Talcher of Odisha. In order to make India the number one consumer of energy in the world by 2030, Pradhan said, the Centre has planned to set up around 5000 methanol plants in the country.
