Indian Coast Guard Commissions fast patrol vessel ‘Adamya’ at Paradip; check its features
In a major step towards strengthening India’s maritime security, the Indian Coast Guard inducted its latest advanced patrol vessel, Adamya, on Friday. The commissioning ceremony was held at the Coast Guard berth in Paradip Port between 8:45 am and 10:30 am. Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary of the Defence Ministry, graced the occasion as the chief guest and formally commissioned the vessel into service.
Constructed with nearly 60 per cent indigenous technology, Adamya represents the growing self-reliance of India’s defence manufacturing. The vessel, measuring about 52 metres in length, is powered by two high-performance diesel engines that allow it to achieve a speed of 27 knots, equivalent to almost 50 km per hour. It is also equipped with sophisticated weapons, communication systems, and modern surveillance technology to deal with multiple challenges at sea.
The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilized remote-control guns with fire control systems, an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and an Automated Power Management System (APMS). These advanced systems will empower the ICG to perform its charter of duties with increased precision, efficiency, and responsiveness across India’s extensive maritime domain.
According to Coast Guard officials, the induction of Adyamya will significantly enhance patrolling operations along the eastern seaboard. The ship has been designed for multifaceted roles, including safeguarding marine resources, curbing illegal fishing, and preventing smuggling and piracy in coastal waters. It will also be deployed for search and rescue operations during cyclones and other maritime emergencies, while in times of conflict, it will bolster coastal defence.
