Jajpur: A girl reportedly kidnapped from Dharmasala area of the district was rescued from Cuttack almost after 12 days.

Acting on the statements made by the kidnapped girl in an audio clip with her mother, a team of cops from Dharmasala Police Station intercepted the vehicle in which the accused was reportedly taking the girl from Puri to Sikharpur in Cuttack.

In a telephonic conversation that went viral across social media platforms, the girl was heard requesting her mother to rescue her from the abductors who had kept her in a hotel in Puri and were planning to take her to Cuttack.

The accused youth was detained while the girl was rescued by police after preliminary interrogation. Further investigation into the case is underway, said police.

Earlier today, police arrested the father of the accused youth in the sensational case. Cops also quizzed his family members in this connection.

Speaking about the case, Jajpur Collector, Chakravarty Singh Rathore said, "This is a sensitive matter. That is why the SP himself is conducting the probe."

Denying to further divulge the ongoing investigation, Rathore said, "This case is under investigation and it will not be fair to comment anything before any concrete evidence comes to fore."

It is pertinent to mention here that, the Jajpur unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had also registered an FIR in this connection.
