Bhubaneswar: Even though five months and fifteen days have passed since Prasad Harichandan took charge as president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), he is yet to finalise his new team. The party is yet to appoint the chiefs in more than 90 blocks and 10 districts. Such sluggishness in the party has started to mar the promise of spewing new lease of life into State Congress which Harichandan espoused.

After assuming office with the manifesto of ‘Us not Me,’ the OPCC chief has already brainstormed about the future roadmap for the party in State. Even after many permutations and combinations, the party chief is yet to zero in on his new executive team. Moreover, the party is yet to finalise on the leaders at the block and district level raising concerns over the party’s intent and seriousness about regaining its lost glory in the State. Experts opine that such a lethargy has also limited the Congress party’s ability to become vocal against the ruling party BJD barring a few instances.

“To fill in the gaps within a political party is not an easy task. The process is on and we will soon finalise the team,” replied Harichandan.

Senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra said, “It is important to identify people who can contribute to the party and help in its reconstruction. I have had discussions with the chief and steps will be taken to finalise the team soon.”
The general wing of the committee which is also the vital one has to be finalized after a lot of thinking as the OPCC president has to work with the team for four long years, said Jaydev Jena, former PCC president.

In the meantime, the OPCC chief has only been able to create a social media and spokespersons team. Apart from this, certain Vaastu-compliant changes have been made to the Congress Bhawan.
