Cuttack: The Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) on Friday resumed its demolition drive against unauthorised religious structures. It has identified 35 religious structures which are built illegally in CDA areas and some other parts in the city.

In the first phase, three religious structures in Markatnagar were bulldozed, said sources.

Looking at the stiff resistance from locals, the district administration has deployed three platoons of police forces at the site.

Notably, the High Court had ordered on January 6, 2011, the district administration to demolish unauthorised temples, which were built on government land after 1987.

Obeying the order, CDA, Cuttack Municipal Corporation and district administration jointly carried out a
demolition drive last year and pulled down around 30 temples.

However, the drive was stopped midway after some temple authorities moved the Supreme Court and got a stay on it.
