Bhubaneswar: After intensifying its crackdown on corrupt government officials, Vigilance department has now turned the heat on public encouraging corrupt practices in Odisha.
In one such incident, the anti-corruption wing arrested two persons for trying to bribe one sub-inspector in Jeypore to dismiss a case registered against their relative.
The accused have been identified as Kartik Ghatan and Ishwar Ghatan.
Both the accused were arrested yesterday while trying to offer bribe of Rs 1 lakh to Chinteneswar Munda, sub-inspector of Sadar police in a bid to prevent action against Bisikeshan Ghatan who are arrested in connection with illegal Ganja trade.
Bisikesan was arrested by a team of Jeypore police during a routine checking of vehicles on NH 26 near Ambaguda outpost yesterday.
Official sources said Bisikesan was caught while trafficking nearly 42 kg of Ganja in a Bolero.
On getting information, both Kartik and Ishwar approached the sub inspector to release the vehicle and not initiate any criminal case against Bisikesan in connection with incident.
