Puri: While construction of chariots for the annual Rath Yatra is underway in full swing, the members of the chariot construction engineering committee, during inspection today, found defects in the wheels of Devadalan & Taladhawaja chariots of Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra, respectively.

After inspection, the Executive Engineer of the committee informed that while cracks were spotted in the spokes of the wheel of Devadalan, the axle of Taladhawaja was found to be weak.

The committee also informed that both the wheels of the chariots will be replaced with new ones.

"The other parts of the wheels of the chariots have not been assembled yet. We are inspecting each wheel, its spokes and different parts for any kind of defects. If any portion is found to be faulty it is being replaced," said Asish Subudhi, Executive Engineer in-charge of inspection of chariot construction.

"After the last year's incident, we are thoroughly inspecting the chariots to ensure smooth conduct of Rath Yatra," he added.

Last year, just three days before Rath Yatra, the axle Devi Subhadra's chariot had broken. However, the broken axle was replaced by the Moharana servitors within four hours.
