Bhubaneswar: Posing as a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, a man allegedly looted gold jewellery from the house of a railway staff in Bhubaneswar today.

Reminiscent of a plot from a Bollywood flick, the accused visited the house of a railway staff, Srinibas Rao in the Railway Staff Quarters Colony in Mancheswar and managed to rob 150 gram gold jewellery.

As per the complaint, the accused arrived at Rao’s house in the guise of a RPF staff and told his family members that a case has been registered against Rao and the house will be searched. Rao's family hesitantly allowed the accused to search the house.

Citing that Rao is in RPF custody, the accused asked Rao’s son to accompany him with the gold to help out his father. After covering some distance on bike, the accused dropped Rao's son at a lonely place and fled with the valuables, the complaint stated.

“The incident happened when I was away from house. A man posing as RPF staff robbed 150 gram gold from my house,” said Rao.

As per locals, before robbing Rao’s house, the conman had attempted to loot another house in the locality, but had failed.

Though police have launched an investigation, it is yet to get any leads in the case.

Bhubaneswar DCP, Anup Kumar Sahu said, “The conman somehow won the confidence of Rao’s family and looted the valuables. It’s a case of swindling.”
