Bhubaneswar: In a major success in the anti-insurgency operation, the Nabrangpur police have busted a Maoist camp, operating in dense forest under the Raighar police limits and seized a huge cache of arms.

Police said large quantities of Naxal paraphernalia, arms and explosive materials have been seized from the camp.

Inspector General (IG) of police, south-west range, Yashwant Jethwa told reporters, “We have seized 8 landmines, 3 single barrel muzzle loading guns, one 8 mm pistol, 70 detonators, 7 bundles of wire, one solar plate and 5kg gun powder from the camp.”

Addressing a press meet, the IG said intelligence inputs hinted that a group of 50 rebels of the Mainpur and Nuapada division operating in Chhatisgarh and Odisha were camping the area. Based on the information, a joint operation was launched by personnel of Border Security Force (BSF), District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Nabarangpur district to track down the camp.

Though there was an exchange of fire between the Reds and the police, no casualties however were reported in the two-day operation led by the Superintendent of Police, Nabarangpur, Brajesh Rai, he added.

Highly placed sources said, combing operation has been intensified in the area.
