Bhubaneswar: It was a delight for dog lovers from across the states to witness more than 300 dogs belonging to 35 different breeds participating in the Orissa Kennel Club's (OKC) 54th and 55th National Level All Breeds Championship Dog Show 2017 underway here in the capital city.

The three-day show, which is open for dogs from all over India, is held to showcase the prized four-legged creature apart from encouraging responsible pet ownership and generating awareness about different breeds of dogs.

Breeds such as Labrador Retriever, American Cocker Spaniel, Tibetan Mastiff, Alaskan Malamute, Husky, Boxer, German Shepherd, Dalmatian, Pug, Dogo Argentino and Rough Collie were among the best ones that caught the fancy of visitors at the dog show.

On the first day, the main attraction was the Labrador and Rottweiler Specialty show. On day two, their level of obedience and faithfulness will be tested, while the third day will showcase the fashion show where every owner would present their dogs at their best.

Subrat Ranjan Prusty, General Secretary of Orissa Kennel Club said, "Dog is obviously man's best friend. Nowadays, in a nuclear family they are considered a part of the family. Therefore all the dog owners and lovers should come to witness how the dogs are being taken care of, their lifestyle and made aware of the fact that they are actually assets.”

All the participating dogs will be judged and awarded based on parameters including temperament, anatomical correctness and adherence to the ‘Breed Standard’ prescribed by the breed’s founding body.

Ramesh Sharma, owner of Labrador twins Lucy-Maggi from Jamshedpur was seen proudly showing off his pets. “Their quality is as per the standards of a Labrador. They are extremely intelligent and obedient. I have brought them here and am confident about their specialty,” said Sharma.
