Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a special drive to curb malpractices of touting activities, journey by ticketless passengers and unauthorised ticketing agencies.

A joint team of ECoR’s vigilance wing and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted intensive joint  checks at important stations like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur & Visakhapatnam on touts and other malpractices during peak rush and festive period recently.

The team is also covering all important mass contact areas to protect railway revenue by preventing journey without tickets.

A release issued by ECoR said the authorities have kept a strict vigil on touts and unauthorised travel agents at reservation counters and misuse of facilities of e-ticketing.

Surveillance is kept on the possible activities of unauthorized vendors through CCTV cameras at important stations round-the-clock. The vigilance team is also keeping watch on booking of train tickets by touts from IRCTC website using fake personal User IDs.

The ECoR appealed to the passengers not to buy ticket from unscrupulous elements and book tickets only at PRS counters or from the authorised agents. Steps are being taken to make public aware about streamlining reservation system.

People and rail users are being educated through public address system. Banners and posters are being displayed at strategic locations. Similarly, seminars, street plays are being organized to create awareness among general public, the release stated.
