Bolangir: Driving allegedly in an inebriated condition a police driver hit a person before ramming the vehicle into an electric pole at Tulasi Nagar in Bolangir on Friday night.

According to sources, the driver identified as Rakesh Mohanty was driving a Tata Sumo of Balangir Reserve Police, without any personnel present in it. He was reportedly drunk and hit a daily wage labourer Ganga Chandan, who was fixing lights on a Durga Puja Mandap in Tulasi Nagar.

Along with the labourer, Mohanty crashed the vehicle into an 11 KV electric pole that got uprooted. Mohanty left the vehicle and fled the spot immediately after the incident.

Locals admitted injured Chandan to a local hospital as he had sustained serious injuries on his head. Though no action has yet been taken on the matter, the locals are demanding compensation for the victim.
